Academic Editing

"My scope of working with Julie was on my MSIS capstone project. The project was approximately 40 pages including references, and was quite dense in regards to technical content. Over the course of the engagement (Approximately 5 days) Julie was requested to edit the document for grammar and clarity twice- once on an initial pass, then a second time after I edited the first round of changes to ensure accuracy of content and meaning. During that time, Julie was fantastic as a resource. She was knowledgeable as a resource, timely on status updates, quick to communicate difficulties encountered with the material or otherwise, and provided excellent work.

During the second round of edits she was able to offer rapid turnaround and help me meet some fairly stringent deadlines. On my project I received an A, and the professor responsible for reviewing the work noted that the project was particularly well written- while I was solely responsible for the research, aggregation of content, and structure I attribute the enhanced readability and flow to her efforts. Thank you for your efforts, Julie."

Beyond Flesh goes far beyond the standard collection of poetry in that it thrusts the reader into verse imbued with passionate imagery and invigorating emotion. Kandice Mason captivates the heart and invigorates the soul with this debut collection. Using bold description, raw unabashed symbolism; she radiates the prowess of a seasoned poetess as she captivates both mind and spirit.

Through the vicious torment of heartbreak and the subtle gentle rhythm of the beauty in honest love, the musical quality of her free-form poetry will leave you swooning for more. As you hang from her every word, don’t forget to breathe. Venture into her world, beyond the monotony of underdeveloped emotion into the soul-driven passion that ignites the fire burning deep within all of us.

From love, desire, and resentment; to the bitterness that threatens to consume the heart-she brings hope within the tantalizing prose. Ride along the waves with her into the bare world where emotion resides. Cast off the chains binding you to the aesthetic and embrace the beauty that exist within-the beauty that Kandice exposes in all its varying degrees. Beyond the soul; behind your perception lies a world where pain and beauty collide. I invite you to embrace the warmth within it and take with you the eloquent embodiment of heart.

Feast your eyes; within your hands lies a banquet of poetry to consume your heart and quench your spirit. Savor every word, every line, and succumb to this unfathomable world.

Bonnie Sue Scarpa also known as, Bonnie Sue Sullivan, grew up in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. After graduating from L'Anse High School in 2003. she joined the United States Marine Corps.  She graduated boot camp earning the title of United States Marine on February 13, 2004.

Her experience as a United States Marine had opened many doors for her, which has inspired a lot of her writing through the years.  This compilation of poetry encompasses every challenge she faced as well as the joy and great love she has for her family and her country. She has been writing poetry for twenty years and is an active contributor to writerscafe.org.  She currently lives in Florida with her four beautiful children.

Fueled by the passion-driven heart of a poet coupled with the strength, honor, and vitality of a U. S. Marine; Bonnie Scarpa presents her debut collection.  Through the delicate prose, she reveals that the strong are also fragile and tender-hearted.

The delicate nature of her emotion coalesces with a soul who has developed a strength to overcome  a myriad of trials.   She expresses feelings relative to harboring shadows in instances of grief and tumult.  Readers can relate to the emotions described herein.  From the haunting memory of a lost love, to the endearing familial bonds, and the conquest and sultry nature of a blossoming romance; Scarpa is sure to delight.  Using her definitive strength and values, she reveals the need for more compassion as illustrated by the poem, Icy Soul.

Refraining from thickening the verse with tawdry prose, Scarpa depicts the value of a soul and what it’s worth, how much is gained despite how much has been lost.  Her writing breathes her ethics, exhales her familial bonds, and thrives upon inner strength to overcome ‘…the devil’s breath’, as exampled in her visually stunning and strikingly poignant poem, Broken. Marine describes with intricate verbiage her commitment and pride for our beloved United States and her experience and devotion to the Corps.

Into My Soul outlines the poetic life of a patriot.  Her work invokes empathy in her readers as we have also experienced the pain of loss, heart-wrenching longing, devotion to our family, the strain of transitioning to different circumstances, and the rush of unconditional love.  This debut is merely one of many collections to come, and there is no doubt in my mind that Scarpa will continue to amaze with her honesty and poetic grace.
